Welcome
to the RNHA of Tennessee!
We strive to equip Hispanic
Americans to be full
participants in the Great
American Experiment of
government by the people, for
the people and of the people.
We firmly believe that Hispanic
values are Republican values and
vice versa. Core principles such
as family, faith, freedom and
future opportunities are
concepts that bind us together.
Individual responsibility,
strong national security,
limited government, a free
market economy and traditional
family values are all basic
beliefs of Republicanism that
are also core to most Hispanics.
It is for this reason that
Hispanics will find a home
within Republicanism.
We hope you will find this
website empowering and that you
decide to join the Republican
National Hispanic Assembly of
Tennessee!
Mission
The mission of the RNHA of
Tennessee is to
build a membership organization
to foster the principles of
Republicanism in the Hispanic
community; to provide Hispanic
Americans with a forum to play
an influential role in local,
state, and national political
activities; to increase the
number of Hispanic Republican
elected officials; and to create
and maintain a network of
Hispanic Republican leaders.
Objectives
1) To promote the core
principles and values of
Republicanism throughout
the Hispanic community in the United States
2) To develop and
maintain a strong, effective
and informed Republican
Hispanic constituency throughout the country.
3) To recruit and
encourage qualified,
Hispanic Americans, as
registered
Republicans, to seek office at all levels of
government.
4) To ensure
candidates who represent the
true values of Republicanism
are
elected to office and continue to represent those
values.
5) To adopt
resolutions and policy
positions on local, state
and national
issues and to seek to implement these resolutions and
policy positions
through networks of the Republican Party and other
appropriate means.
6) To promote and
encourage civic
participation
7) To insure the
participation of citizens of
Hispanic heritage in the
American political process and in all levels of the
Republican Party.
Our History
The 1972 Presidential campaign,
for the first time in U.S.
history, created an outreach
committee to involve Hispanic
American voters in politics. The
Spanish Speaking Committee for
the Re-Election of President
Nixon was instrumental in the
acquisition of 60% of the
Hispanic vote.
In
1972 President Nixon appointed
George Bush as Chairman of the
Republican National Committee (RNC).
Reviewing the substantial gains
scored by GOP candidates among
voters of Hispanic background
during the past election, Bush
believed there was a need to
keep all those Hispanic
Americans who participated in
President Nixon’s presidential
election in the ranks of the
Republican Party.
In April of 1973, Chairman Bush
announced the formation of the
Spanish Speaking Advisory
Committee to the RNC to expand
and improve the participation of
Spanish surnamed persons in the
Party.
Under the leadership of the
national members of the Spanish
Speaking Advisory Committee the
RNHA was officially born at the
organizational meeting that took
place on July 11-13, 1974 at the
Stouffer’s National Center Inn
in Crystal City, Virginia.
In 1974 the RNHA was officially
organized by a group of Hispanic
Republicans under the leadership
of then-incumbent RNC Chairman
George Bush. Since that time,
RNHA has been the only Hispanic
Republican organization
recognized as an ally of the
Republican National Committee (RNC).
On July 29th, 1976 President
Gerald Ford gave remarks at the
First Annual RNHA Banquet.
Today, the RNHA continues to
play an influential role in
politics. With chapters
throughout the nation, the RNHA
is committed to its mission of
inclusion, outreach and
opportunity for the Hispanic
community. |
